Wales/Westpac Ex-PNG/Pacific Staff Reunion

2019 Reunion

NSW

Another great night was had by all who attended. Our numbers in Sydney were up this year to 95.  Again we were able to welcome a few new faces to the event. We also were able to show Peter Johnston's PNG album from the 1930's. These have been donated to us by his daughter Angela Lind. They provide a huge amount of discussion on the night. Once scanned they will be available via the PNG Photo Albums page.

Victoria

Victoria has a reasonable sized conclave of bankers and their families who have either worked in PNG or other Pacific Island locations and in recognition of their time in PNG gather under the stewardship of Peter Milburn to acknowledge and celebrate PNG Independence Day.
Victoria is very fortunate to have a very enthusiastic person in Peter Milburn who is passionate about everything PNG and because of Peter’s dedication he has, over many years, been the driving force behind our very successful PNG Independence Day dinners.

The dinner brings together a small band of ex Bank of NSW/Westpac personnel along with their wives, partners and friends who make an annual pilgrimage to the Glen Waverly RSL to celebrate Independence Day, relive some wonderful times, experiences and memories of our time in PNG and catch up with friends who we only see on occasions such as this. Whilst most of us are more “recent” veterans of PNG service one of the group worked in the Territory back in 1955.

Whilst our numbers may be small we are fortunate to have people who are prepared to travel from all over Victoria to attend the function. Hopefully with their continued support we will see our gathering grow in strength.

The Function was held on 20th September 2019 with 33 people in attendance.
